September 20, 2020 - The U.S. Forest Service reports smoke and air quality outlook for the San Joaquin-Yosemite areas, due to the Creek Fire.
Fire: The Creek Fire was most active yesterday on the north and west sides of the perimeter. The northeast side of the fire has slowed as it has burned to the footprint of the Lion Fire (2018). Today fire activity may be a little more active with warmer temperatures and lower humidity. For the latest Creek Fire fire information and details, go to: https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/videos/7147/
Smoke: Yesterday, smoke remained mostly isolated in the canyons within the fire perimeter, allowing the areas surrounding the fire to reach Moderate at all sites. Today, the sites nearest the fire will likely see greater smoke impacts to Unhealthy/Very Unhealthy ranges, with some sites reaching hazardous levels. Tomorrow, overall air quality will likely degrade as smoke accumulates under continued light winds.
Notes: Outlooks reflect particulate matter from smoke only - not ozone or dust.
