October 6, 2020 - We at Mariposa Reformed Baptist Church have welcomed another pastor to our church. After prayer, spending time with this man, prayer, congregational vote, and more prayer he’ll be joining me in the Gospel ministry. He actually preached for four weeks which gave me a break in the cycle. Here I am though, back in the swing of things and prepping to preach for four weeks.
It couldn’t have happened at a better time for me. Like many of you, like all of you I would imagine, you are not blind nor are you able to ignore the year we’ve been having. I praise God that he has given me the ability at times to calm and hold my tongue. We Christians can see our neighbors struggling. We may see them hurting. We see many who are blindly walking around, shouting at shadows, and only hearing their own thoughts reflected back at them.
The task though the church and its members remain the same. Love God and love our neighbor. Preach Christ! We cannot lose that on that which makes us Christian. We confess such truth like we find in Romans 8:1, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” What is at the center of our faith is Christ and that makes us distinct. We can join hands with folks outside of the faith in order to help our neighbors. We are not called to live separated lives outside of our communities. We ambassadors of the kingdom of God are to love our neighbors, pray for them, and may the Lord open their hearts to hear the Gospel truth one day. We don’t abandon the blind swatting at shadows, but go in the darkness and show folks the light. Through Christ, we are forgiven.
