SST LTROctober 6, 2020 - Lisa Rockwell would be a wonderful asset to our school board. Lisa has spent her thirty years in the field of education successfully engaging and connecting with students and their families, and supporting teachers and staff. As someone who currently trains teachers in project-based-learning, Lisa is thoroughly knowledgeable about the latest standards and regulations put in place by the California Department of Education. She has first hand experience in writing curriculum that matters to kids.

With coursework in Art and a Special Education degree, Lisa started by teaching preschool. When her own two children were in middle school, they told her school was boring. Lisa wanted to solve this problem. She transitioned to teaching in middle school to see what could be done to make school engaging for all students. She had fantastic results. The same held true when she taught at an alternative school for kids who had been expelled; her students became engaged in learning. Lisa was also an Outward Bound teacher and witnessed the benefits to students of experiential learning. She was a principal at elementary schools, including a Title 1 school with a large concentration of low-income students, where she again achieved tremendous increases in student and parent engagement with wonderful results in student learning.

Lisa also volunteers in ways that benefit children and families. During the last seven years she has been back in Mariposa, Lisa has served as a Board member for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), working for children in foster care, and as a docent at the Mariposa History Museum, helping to bring our rich history to life for school children.

Lisa has extensive first hand experience in meeting children's varied learning needs, engaging with their families, and supporting teachers and staff. Her knowledge, openness, and creative problem solving skills would be great assets to our school board.

Please join me in voting for Lisa Rockwell.
