October 30, 2020 - The U.S. Forest Service reports smoke and air quality outlook for the San Joaquin-Yosemite areas, due to the Creek Fire.
Fire: The northeastern fire perimeter remains the most active. Heavy fuels and dry conditions will continue to produce significant smoke despite minimal new acres consumed. Shorter daylight hours will overall reduce the active burning period, though active fire behavior is expected. Fire information can be found at: inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7147/
Smoke: As diurnal terrain-driven upslope-down-valley winds prevail, smoke will peak midday along the western foothills of the fire perimeter followed by a decrease in smoke by evening hours. Areas of heaviest smoke impacts will be Prather, North Fork, and Oakhurst, as well as locations in the immediate vicinity of the fire. Smoke will begin to build into Mammoth Lakes by late today, though overnight clearing into tomorrow morning is expected. Smoke concentrations will build tomorrow as high pressure sets in and nightly inversions prevent widescale smoke dispersion. A slight north-northwesterly wind will effect the region over the next day, preventing significant smoke impacts along the northwestern foothills and northern high county.
