November 2, 2020 - The U.S. Forest Service reports smoke and air quality outlook for the San Joaquin-Yosemite areas, due to the Creek Fire.

Fire: The northeastern area of the Creek fire remains the most active near Edison lake and north of the middle fork. Single-digit humidity continues to combine with historically low heavy fuel moistures that will continue to result in the burnout of interior islands. Thermal belts enable active internal burning at elevation and strong mid-level inversions trap smoke throughout the night.  Fire information can be found at: inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7147/

Smoke: High-level clouds continue as an upper-level low moves over the fire. Despite the increase in cloud cover, a dry low-level air mass will continue with unseasonably warm high temperatures. Breezy early morning easterly winds across ridges will transition to up-drainage into the afternoon with some humidity recovery. Despite air movement this morning, expect similar air quality conditions as yesterday as similar terrain-driven diurnal wind patterns to continue this afternoon. The highest smoke impact will continue from Oakhurst south to Millerton shortly after inversion break this afternoon. Lee Vining, Mammoth Lakes, and Bishop should see good to moderate air, and Yosemite NP area forecast to remain mostly moderate today and tomorrow.
