November 6, 2020 - The U.S. Forest Service reports smoke and air quality outlook for the San Joaquin-Yosemite areas, due to the Creek Fire.
Fire: The potential exists today for fire growth as SSW winds increase with the onset of a cold front this afternoon. Sustained winds of 20-30 mph, gusting 40-50 mph are expected over the fire above Pond Lily Lake. Rain, snow and colder temperatures are expected on the fire late this afternoon, persisting through the remainder of the weekend.
Smoke: An abrupt change in weather is expected today thanks to the arrival of a cold front. Winds associated with this frontal boundary are expected to scour out smoke from the foothill community’s SW of the fire and significantly improve air quality. Communities East of the Sierra Crest will continue to be impacted by smoke as SSW winds push smoke over the Sierra crest to the NE. For today, Mammoth Lakes can expect a 24-hour average of USG with periods of Unhealthy. Yosemite National Park can expect Good conditions today.
