While Reforestation NEPA is underway (scoping package available on Forest website), some Restoration projects (meadow restoration, repair of recreation facilities damaged by the fire, etc.) are being planned; funding is actively being sought.
With the goal of soliciting input and feedback on Restoration projects and on the Reforestation Project, the Forest encourages the public to attend the planned workshops and open houses. The Restoration Workshop will engage the public in discussing needs and concerns regarding Restoration of the fire affected landscape, and offer an overview of Rim Fire Restoration actions since the fire.
The Reforestation Workshop and Open House will have the Forest Interdisciplinary Team that developed the proposed action available to answer questions/concerns and receive feedback on the proposed action.
Location information is as follows:
- Public Meeting on Restoration – March 31 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus, Sonora Oaks Hotel & Conference Center – 19551 Hess Avenue, Sonora, CA.
- Reforestation Technical Workshop – April 8 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Tuolumne County Emergency Operations Center, 18440 Striker Ct., (off of Tuolumne Rd), Sonora, CA.
- Reforestation Open House – April 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Tuolumne County Emergency Operations Center, 18440 Striker Ct., (off of Tuolumne Rd), Sonora, CA.
The Reforestation Project currently has a proposed action available for public input/official comment until April 13. Reforestation can begin once the Environmental Impact Statement has been completed and the Record of Decision has been signed. June of 2016 is the estimated completion date for both of these items.
