November 8, 2020 – The U.S. Forest Service provides a video update from the Texas Canyon Hotshots as their work winds down on the Creek Fire. In the video you will hear from Captain Leonard Dimaculangan and Dennis Wornick of the Texas Canyon Hotshots. They will talk about what the job of being a Hotshot entails, and how they started out in their profession. The Texas Canyon Hotshots are one of 14 hand crews working on the Creek Fire and one of three hotshot crews. The 20-man crew, which hails from the Angeles National Forest outside of Los Angeles, has spent nearly two weeks on the fire. They were one of three hotshot crews that helped contain the fire in the area of Lake Thomas A. Edison when it was actively burning. The fire perimeter in that area has since been painted “black,” meaning it is fully contained. Alaska Incident Management Team public information officers Kristian Knutson and Tim Mowry caught up with the crew on Wednesday as they were pulling protective wrap off cabins around Huntington Lake. Created by Kristian Knutson with help from Jayme Dittmar, both Public Information Officer trainees on the Alaska Incident Management Team.
