March 24, 2015 - During the morning commute hours at 8:10 A.M. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 Jessica Meisner, 37, of Catheys Valley was driving a 2012 Honda Accord northbound on Highway 49 and was slowing down to a stop due to a vehicle in front of her that was turning left onto Peg Leg Road. Tanya Cragholm, 31 of Mariposa was driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee directly behind Jessica Meisner along with a 5 year old passenger in her Jeep. According to the CHP Tanya Cragholm was distracted and did not see Jessica Meisner slowing down to a stop. Tanya Cragholm applied the Jeep's brakes but was unable to keep the vehicle from colliding with the Honda. After hitting the Honda her Jeep continued onto the shoulder of the highway and rolled down an embankment.

EMS arrived at the accident scene and transported both drivers and the child to John C. Fremont Hospital in Mariposa for evaluation and treatment for minor injuries.

CHP Officer Steven Lewis said, "Driving is a complex task requiring a driver's full attention. Anything that diverts the driver's eye or attention from the roadway; even for 1-2 seconds, could result in tragedy. At 55 MPH you are traveling at 81 feet per second. Every time you take your eyes off of the road for 2 seconds you have traveled 162 feet with your eyes closed. The bottom line, whatever the distraction, IT"S NOT WORTH IT!"
