January 2, 2021 - Investigators with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department are currently investigating a fatal shooting which took place on New Year’s Day of 2021. Patrol officers with the stanislaus county sheriffs office logoCalifornia Highway Patrol were first to respond to the intersection of W Monte Vista Ave and S Carpenter Road in unincorporated Modesto at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 1st.

The CHP immediately requested the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office patrol, detectives, and crime scene analysis units for a victim who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.

The crime scene included a vehicle with a lone occupant later identified as 52-year-old Modesto resident Teodoro Gutierrez. It appears the victim was shot by someone outside of the vehicle.

Our detectives are diligently working to identify the responsible party or parties. They are following all investigative leads, processing evidence, and attempting to locate witnesses or others who can shed light into how or why Gutierrez was killed. The victim is known to have been employed by a nearby business and had recently finished his work shift.

We urge members of the public to contact Detective Gonzalez by calling 209-567-4466 should they have information to share. More details will be released later as the case continues to develop.
