January 16, 2021 - A former S.C.O.P.E. (Sheriff’s Community Organized Policing Effort) member Ronald Glenn was arrested Friday, January 15th on felony charges of Ronald Glenn of MariposaEmbezzlement & Grand Theft.

Mr. Glenn had been a long time SCOPE member and was the Treasurer for the volunteer organization for the last 9 years. In early 2020 the SCOPE organization went through a structure change and Mr. Glenn was removed as the Treasurer. The new team identified irregularities in the SCOPE account and notified the Community Relations Captain.

The Financial Crimes Detective began an investigation immediately. Throughout most of 2020, the Detective served numerous search warrants on bank accounts, emails and businesses all over California. The Detective was able to identify an excess of $12,000 in misused funds by Mr. Glenn.

The SCOPE program is comprised of adult volunteers who assist with the many administrative duties and non-enforcement related patrol functions. Members perform vacation house checks, present crime prevention programs, and conduct high visibility patrols. These local citizens work with uniformed patrol officers to enhance the community awareness of positive law enforcement. The SCOPE program is often compensated for their services by outside businesses / organizations when they perform services for them. These funds help pay for SCOPE uniforms, special supplies needed, trainings, etc.

Since the investigation began the SCOPE program has made significant changes to their organizational practices to avoid future situations like this.

"Volunteer organizations like our SCOPE program are a vital piece of our office. They work so hard for our community. I was angry, saddened and disappointed that someone would do this to such an indispensable program and try and diminish all the great work that they do." Sheriff Briese.

Detectives and Sheriff’s Deputies served a warrant on the home of Mr. Glenn on Friday, January 15th when they placed him under arrest. Mr. Glenn was booked into the jail and released on $50,000 bail.
