January 27, 2021 - Sheriff Tyson Pogue has declared a local emergency for Madera County due to the significant impacts of overlapping extreme weather throughout Madera County, including last week’s Mono Wind Event, and current winter storm “atmospheric river” conditions with rising concerns around debris flow and mud slides.

Madera County is already recovering from four other local emergencies including the Creek Fire, COVID-19, Tree Mortality, and the Drought. Resources are strained and the extreme weather further depletes county resources. Due to the culmination of factors and conditions, a local state of emergency has been declared by Sheriff Pogue on January 27, 2021.

Sheriff Pogue reflects, “By declaring a local state of emergency it allows for some exceptions to county purchasing rules and it’s a formal request for assistance from the state and federal officials. Bottom line is, the added resources and streamlined regulations keep Madera County safer and enables our community to recover from disaster faster.”
