February 28, 2021 - On February 12, the United States Park Police (USPP) San Francisco Field Office's Criminal Investigations Unit served a search and arrest warrant in San Francisco’s Outer Richmond neighborhood. A San Francisco man was arrested and charged with the January 26 burglary of the Cliff House.

The arrest warrant was executed safely with assistance from the San Francisco Police Department’s tactical team and National Park Service law enforcement rangers. A search warrant resulted in the recovery of several items that were stolen.

The auction contractors hired by the former Cliff House operators discovered a break-in at the Cliff House on January 26. A public information bulletin about the incident was posted on February 3 leading to tips that were critical in furthering the investigation.

On February 19, USPP located additional items stolen from the Cliff House, accounting for the remainder of historic Cliff House and Sutro Bath memorabilia. All items recovered during the investigation have been returned to the former operators of the Cliff House Restaurant, the Hountalas family. These include historic items, such as (Sutro Baths bathing suits, and artwork). The USPP thanks the public for their support of this investigation
