March 7, 2021 - The Madera County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) reports on the afternoon of Thursday, March 4, 2021, MCSO Search and Rescue (SAR) teams were dispatched to the Cold Springs Summit area to locate an overdue family.
MCSO Search and Rescue team members located the husband, wife, and child, and helped mobilize their 4x4 SUV. All parties were uninjured. SAR members escorted the family safely back down to Bass Lake without further incident.
SAR members learned that while waiting for rescue, riders on tracked side by side vehicles had driven by the family and refused to render assistance. MCSO would like to remind residents, the mountains of Eastern Madera County are for everyone to share and enjoy. While it is imperative for parties to maintain personal responsibility, plan ahead and be properly prepared for conditions, it does not excuse the behavior of others to willfully leave someone stranded.
MCSO encourages community members to be respectful and neighborly while spending time in the high country, and if someone is in need of assistance, please lend a hand or call our office for help (9-1-1 for emergencies, (559) 675-7770 non-emergency).
