March 11, 2021 - Why did Measure N fail? Where does Fremont Hospital go from here if people want to have a hospital? These are just a couple questions to be discussed at a public Zoom meeting on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10:00 A.M.

Fremont Hospital CEO Matthew Matthiessen (pictured) will give a short update and then take questions and suggestions from the public.

Last November the hospital district had a measure on the ballot asking for approval of a small sales tax increase to fund building a new hospital. California is requiring all hospitals build before 1970 to be replaced by 2030. The cost is over $60 million and many hospitals are asking citizens to approve a tax measure to pay for the funding.

A tax measure requires 66% approval and Measure N only received 63%. The hospital board of directors says it wants to know why people voted no and what they can do to change their minds before the next election as they’ve already acknowledged they need to try again.

Matthiessen has been the Fremont CEO for almost four years after joining the district as CFO in July 2013.
