March 30, 2021 - Madera County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) is pleased to announce the County of Madera has met criteria set by the State of California to move into the less restrictive Red Tier.

MCDPH Director Sara Bosse says, "After an extended time in the Purple Tier, it is so encouraging to be able to announce expanded activities allowed in the red tier. Vaccines are a large part of this positive change in our case and positivity rates. However, we can't forget the importance of continuing to do all the things we've all been doing to get us here: Masking, social distancing, and testing.

Based on information released today, Madera County's adjusted case rate and testing volume shows a decline in COVID-19 transmission sufficient for this status change.

Some of those changes include:
• Local school officials may decide to fully re-open for in-person instruction
• Gyms/fitness centers open at 10% capacity
• Restaurants open indoors at 25% capacity
• Movie theaters open at 25% capacity
• Museums, zoos open indoors at 25% capacity
• Outdoor live events with an audience open at 25% capacity

"We really encourage anyone planning to gather this holiday weekend to get tested ahead of time," says Public Health Officer Dr. Paul. "Knowing ahead of time really helps protect your family and friends at your gathering who may not have been vaccinated yet."
