April 14, 2015 - SACRAMENTO – Today, AB 453 authored by Assemblyman Frank Bigelow (R-O’Neals), advanced out of the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife committee with bipartisan support.

AB 453 would authorize a local agency to amend their existing groundwater management plans, so that it may serve as an alternative plan under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. Under this bill, local governments can to continue managing groundwater basins under their existing plans. The bill provides the much needed flexibility for local agencies to deal with current water challenges and California’s devastating drought.

“During this terrible drought the best thing we can do for our local communities is provide them the tools they need to ensure water supplies can be carefully managed,” Bigelow said. “The flexibility we are seeking to provide in AB 453 will ensure efficient management of California’s groundwater supply for future generations,” Bigelow said.
