At the end of March, Erika Miranda's fifth and sixth grade students from Sierra Foothill Charter School traveled to Golden Valley High School where they watched Merced High perform historical monologues. After the performance, students went to Fahren’s Park. They ate lunch and then met up with three Parks and Recreation volunteers who showed the class the basics for disc-golf. At Golden Valley High School, students watched Merced High perform historical monologues. This fit in perfectly with the Wax Museum project the class has been working on and performed for SFCS students and their families later in the week. Students were able to meet such historical figures as Ceasar Chaves, Rosie the Riveter, and Deborah Sampson. The students enjoyed meeting the high school students, who sat with them during the play. During breaks, they got to share what it was like writing and memorizing monologues.
Ms. Miranda enjoyed speaking with Julie Ransom, the theater teacher who directed the “History Talks” performance, about how she created the project from start to finish. The two teachers found they had very similar teacher experiences! At Fahren’s Park, students ate lunch and then met up with three Parks and Recreation volunteers who showed the class the basics of playing disc-golf. Students then played the course for an hour. They were thrilled when the Parks and Rec volunteers told them they could keep their discs as souvenirs. Here they are on the bus on the way back to school, with Skylee Bond, Jaden DuBois, and Cael Harry visible in the front seats.
