May 10, 2021 - WASHINGTON — Last week, Representative Josh Harder sent a bipartisan and bicameral letter urging the House Education & Labor Committee and the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee to advance his bill that Josh Harder congressman californiaaddresses the shortage of affordable, quality child care in the Central Valley. The bill, the Child Care Workforce & Facilities Act, will provide $100 million per year to create a new grant program to help states support the education, training, and retention of the child care workforce. It will also support the building, renovating, and expanding of child care facilities in areas with child care shortages. The bill is supported by Republican Senator Sullivan (AK), Republican House member Herrera Beutler (WA-3), and Democratic Senator Klobuchar (MN).

“It’s absurd that right now it costs more for a year of child care in California than a year at Stanislaus State,” said Rep. Harder. “As we recover and rebuild from this pandemic, we have to address the fact that it’s just too hard to find quality child care in the Central Valley. My bipartisan bill is another step toward ensuring that every kid has a shot at the American Dream no matter where they come from or where they live. It’s time we pass this thing into law.”
