May 10, 2021 - Atwater, CA – Over the weekend the Merced County Sheriff’s STAR Team conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Osborn Park in the city of Atwater. During the vehicle stop, the deputies recognized the driver as 19-year-old Sonny Rodriguez who was on felony probation with Merced County.

STAR Team Deputies searched Rodriguez’s vehicle and located a loaded 9mm handgun under the driver’s seat. Rodriguez was arrested for several weapons charges which included a felon in possession of a loaded firearm. Additionally, Rodriguez was booked into the Merced County Jail without further incident.
