May 20, 2021 - Library cards in Mariposa County will now let you check out a lot more than books. Under a new program, card-holders can now check out Lakes McClure and McSwain for fishing, biking, boating, picnicking and more.

Beginning in June, single day-use passes for Lakes McClure and McSwain can be borrowed from the Mariposa County Library. The day-use pass allows access for one passenger vehicle to any of the five recreation areas on Lake McSwain and Lake McClure: Bagby, Horseshoe Bend, Barrett Cove (including Exchequer Mountain Bike Park), McClure Point and McSwain Recreation Area.

“We are excited about this new opportunity,” said Brooke Gutierrez, Director of MID Parks and Recreation. “We know this will encourage even more park visitors to head outside and enjoy Lakes McSwain and McClure.”

The park passes will be available year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. There are currently five park passes available to Mariposa County Library cardholders. The park passes can be borrowed for the same check-out period as a library book: three weeks. The passes may be used repeatedly during the time they are being borrowed.

The Mariposa County Library has multiple branches, each with their own days and times of operations. Currently, library visitors must reserve items for checkout for curbside pickup – including the parks passes. Those interested in checking out a parks pass should visit the Mariposa County Library website to make reservation for pickup by clicking here. The library can also be reached by phone at 209-966- 2140 ext. 0.

Janet Chase-Williams, Head Librarian of the Mariposa County Library said the MID and Library joint program will greatly benefit the local community.

“We are so excited to provide people the opportunity to get outdoors and experience these open spaces right in our own backyard,” she said.
