May 28, 2021 - The Merced County Sheriff's Office reports on May 28, 2021 at approximately 11:30 A.M. the Merced County Sheriff’s Investigations Bureau and Supervised Release Team (SRT) along with the US Marshals Service located and apprehended the last two of the six escapees that broke out of the Merced County Mail jail on January 9, 2021.
On January 12, 2021, escaped inmate 22-year-old Edgar Ventura, was apprehended without incident in the City of Firebaugh by the Firebaugh Police Department as he turned himself in at the police department after be encouraged by family members to turn himself in due to pressure from investigators working the case.
Later that day, on January 12th, two more of the five outstanding Merced County Jail escapees were captured with the assistance of the US Marshals Office and other law enforcement agencies as they attempted to make their way to the US/Mexico border. 22-year-old Fabian Cruz Roman and 21-year-old Andres Nunez Rodriguez, were apprehended in the San Diego area without incident.
On February 6, 2021, Deputies with the Merced County Sheriff’s STAR Team located Merced County Jail escapee, 19-year-old Gabriel Francis Coronado in the Livingston area of Merced County. Coronado was arrested without incident.
20-year-old Jorge Barron and 21-year-old Manuel Leon were captured in Glendale Arizona with the assistance of the US Marshals Service and the Glendale Police Department. Barron and Leon will be transported back to Merced County Jail.
No further information will be released at this time and a press conference will be held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at 11:00am at the Sheriff’s Office Facility B.
