June 3, 2021 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports another day of triple digit heat is likely in much of the San Joaquin Valley and lower foothills today as well as the Kern County Desert.

Thermometer readings of 103 degrees can be expected in the advisory area this afternoon. Meanwhile high temperatures of up to 107 degrees can be expected at the south end of the San Joaquin Valley including the Bakersfield area.

In the hottest locations of the Kern County desert such as the Indian Wells Valley, high temperatures will be near 110 degrees this afternoon.

Heat related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are likely.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in an air-conditioned room, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Afternoon high temperatures between 98 to 103. Local
  areas up to 106 in the coastal hills and lower Sierra
  foothills from Fresno County southward into Kern County.

* WHERE...The Central San Joaquin Valley including Fresno,
  Kings, Tulare and Kern county north of the Bakersfield area.
  Also included are the Southern Sierra Foothills and portions
  of the coastal range.

* WHEN...Until 8 PM PDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses to occur.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
