Updated: Weather Service Upgrades Excessive Heat Watch to an Excessive Heat Warning Beginning Thursday, July 8, 2021 with High Temperatures Expected from 106 to 113 Degrees

July 7, 2021 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports dangerous heat is expected in Central California this weekend into early next week.

Plan accordingly to stay safe in this heat. Heat related illnesses, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible if simple precautions are not taken.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and remain in an air-conditioned room.

THROUGH MONDAY EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions expected. High temperatures
  106 to 113 degrees each afternoon Friday through Monday.

* WHERE...Portions of central California including the San
  Joaquin Valley, the West Side Hills, the Sierra Nevada and
  Kern County mountain areas below 5000 feet.

* WHEN...From Friday afternoon through Monday evening.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat will significantly increase the
  potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those
  working or participating in outdoor activities.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this
situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-
conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives
and neighbors.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in
vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during
warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal
temperatures in a matter of minutes.
