July 11, 2021 - WASHINGTON - Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) is encouraging Central Valley families who don’t normally file taxes to use the IRS’ new non-filer tool to claim the benefits Josh Harder congressman californiathey deserve. More than 90% of kids in Rep. Harder’s district will benefit from these new direct payments of up to $3,600 for kids under 6 and $3,000 for kids under 18. Rep. Harder voted to pass the expanded Child Tax Credit through the American Rescue Plan this spring.

Families who don’t file taxes or haven’t filed in the last few years should use the IRS tool to sign up for the Child Tax Credit here: https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/child-tax-credit-non-filer-sign-up-tool

“There’s no better investment than an investment in our kids,” said Rep. Harder. “The Child Tax Credit will send help to almost 200,000 kids in the Valley and directly lift more than 10,000 out of poverty. I was proud to vote this help into law this spring, and now it’s on all of us to make sure every family gets the help they deserve.”

In Rep. Harder’s district alone, the Child Tax Credit will provide new help for 196,300 children. It will lift 11,800 children out of poverty including 3,900 children under six-years old. Families in poverty will receive an average of $5,000 from the credit in the next year alone.
