July 23, 2021 - On Friday, Congressman Tom McClintock requested California Governor Gavin Newsom declare a State of Emergency for the Tamarack Fire in Alpine County.

The Honorable Gavin Newsom Governor of California 1303 10th Street, Suite 1173 Sacramento, CA 95814

Dear Governor Newsom,

I write to request you fully, fairly, and immediately consider declaring a State of Emergency for the Tamarack Fire currently impacting California.

The Tamarack Fire has now exceeded 58,000 acres with little containment. In California, the fire is devastating Alpine County, forcing evacuations, damaging property, and threatening critical infrastructure. The Tamarack Fire has already devastated the county's economic base. The federal government owns 96% of the county's land, depriving it of a significant tax base. The county's major economic assets are its public lands, recreational opportunities, and seasonal events that have already been canceled due to the Tamarack Fire. As such, a State of Emergency declaration is critical to ensuring resources are swiftly deployed to respond to this devastating wildfire.

I ask that you declare a State of Emergency and do everything in your power to provide assistance to the communities impacted by the Tamarack Fire.
Sincerely,

Tom McClintock
