The celebration began outside where students released the butterflies they had watched go from caterpillar stage into chrysalises and finally emerge into butterflies. Older students helped gently place the butterflies on orange slices and hand them to younger students.

Next, students enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities, including races to put the butterfly's life cycle in the correct order, making butterfly masks, playing with bubbles, and a basketball game where students made a basket and then answered some questions about recycling.

Indoor activities included creating origami butterflies, using recycled materials to create fun objects, making paper beads and necklaces, answering trivia questions with Ms. Korn, enjoying veggies from the garden and a special refreshing herbal cold tea -- this was great most welcome as it was a hot day! There were also fabulous prizes!

Students ended the day with a campus clean up where they started at one end of campus and made their way clear across to the other side, picking up all bits of trash they could find along the way.
