Merced County Office of Education recently celebrated its 31st annual Writing Festival. This year, they invited students in Mariposa County to participate as well. Students at Sierra Foothill Charter School were excited to take them up on this kind offer.

Winning entries in prose and poetry were announced. Sierra Foothill Charter School students in Mrs. Baumann's first and second grade class won first place in their age division for a story they wrote entitled, "Hannah's Adventure."

SFCS student Jessica Milazzo won in the eighth grade category and Malte Salonen won in the fifth grade category.

The students' stories were selected out of 3,000 entries.

On May 6, the winners traveled to the Merced Mall to attend an awards ceremony.
