August 24, 2021 - Merced – On August 23, 2021, at 9:55 P.M. Officers were called to the area of Calimyrna Ave. & E. 22nd St. for a report of shots fired. A shooting victim was located in the area of E. 21st St. & Yosemite Parkway. 
The victim advised that he had been shot in the lower leg during and attempt to purchase a vehicle that he had found on a social media site.
The victim (25) said that he had travelled to Merced to purchase a vehicle. He went to the area of Weston Way and E. 22nd St. to meet the seller. Once there he met with a heavy-set Hispanic male who said that he was selling the car. The suspect demanded money from the victim and shortly thereafter fired several shots with one striking him in the leg. The victim fled the area in his vehicle and contacted police. The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was later released.
