California Statewide Fire Summary for August 25, 2021

August 25, 2021 - Currently, more than 14,200 firefighters are continuing to work towards containment on 12 major wildfires and one extended attack fire, all while responding to hundreds of new emergencies Cal Fireand wildfires each day. In the past 24-hours there were 25 new initial attack wildfires, including the new Rock Fire in Riverside County, which has burned 250 acres and is 25 percent contained. Fire danger remains high across the state as a warming trend with low humidity is expected over the next few days.

A series of low-pressure troughs moving through the northern region will continue the dry weather pattern causing elevated fire weather concerns and valley heat. Smoke continues to impact many northern California communities. In the southern region, daytime temperatures will warm 5 to 10 degrees above normal by Friday and continue into the weekend. West to southwest winds of 15 – 25 mph with local gusts to 40 mph will surface across the mountain ridges and desert passes through this evening, and then again Friday evening through Saturday evening. In the Southeast part of the state, there is an excessive heat warning in effect from 10:00 a.m. today until 9:00 p.m. Friday.

CAL FIRE continues to urge all Californians to take steps to prevent sparking a wildfire. To learn more ways to prevent sparking a wildfire, visit www.readyforwildfire.org.
