California Statewide Fire Summary for August 27, 2021

August 27, 2021 - More than 15,200 firefighters are on the frontlines of 14 major fires and four extended attack fires that continue to burn in California, though progress is being made each day. Containment efforts continue to Cal Fireincrease despite weather conditions continuing to get warmer and drier. Additional resources being used to aid the firefighters in their efforts, which this morning include 1,096 engines, 328 handcrews, 394 bulldozers, 390 watertenders, 114 helicopters, and dozens of airtankers.

Across the state, daytime temperatures will warm around 5 – 10 degrees above normal on Friday, with hot temperatures persisting through the weekend. A Red Flag Warning is in effect through late Saturday morning for gusty winds and low humidity across the northern and central Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothills stretching from Shasta County down to Colusa County. Gusty northerly winds 10 – 20 mph with local gusts 25 – 35 mph will develop this morning. Wind may decrease this evening before increasing again Saturday morning. Combined with low humidity and dry fuels, this will result in critical fire weather conditions. A high pressure will be over the entire southern tier of the state through this weekend. An excessive heat warning remains in effect until Sunday evening for the southeast part of the state. Hot and dry conditions will cause the potential for large fire to remain elevated across the region through this weekend.

With warmer and drier conditions expected through the weekend, it is critical that all Californians take steps to prevent sparking a wildfire. To learn more, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
