Crows Nest boat launch where a suspect was captured. It sits west of Boat Ramp 1.
August 30, 2021 - Around 6:30 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2021, a chaotic scene broke out as shots were fired at Boat Ramp #1 at Millerton State Park. As people scattered to safety, State Park Rangers responded to the scene. Rangers detained a man in the Crows Nest Boat Launch parking lot believed to be a shooting suspect. Rangers and Cal Fire firefighters also tended to a man with a gunshot wound and a teenage girl who was shot. The man shot is believed to be an associate of the suspect detained. Both the man and young lady were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Fresno County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene to interview dozens of witnesses. The Crime Scene Unit arrived to process a large area for evidence. It is unclear who shot one of the two suspects. Detectives have determined this to be a gang-related shooting. They are still working to identify a motive, and all of the people involved.
