Congressman Josh Harder: During the worst fire year on record, Harder is leading the charge for historic investments to fight and prevent wildfires

August 31, 2021 - WASHINGTON - On Monday, Representative Josh Harder (CA-10) announced that he has joined the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus alongside Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler. The Josh Harder congressman californiaBipartisan Wildfire Caucus elevates awareness and bipartisan consensus around wildfire management and mitigation, and wildfire preparedness and recovery.

In recent months, Rep. Harder has successfully pushed President Biden to raise firefighter pay, introduced legislation to immediately address the wildfire emergency in California, and held a roundtable with local chiefs to discuss wildfire fighting and prevention. Last week, Rep. Harder urged his colleagues to pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill in order to deliver a historic $3.4 billion in new funding to fight wildfires.

“The wildfire crisis means thousands of families in danger, toxic smoke in our air, and blackouts across the state. I’m excited to join the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus because this group is leading the charge to get more heroic firefighters on the ground and better technology in their hands,” said Rep. Harder. “Right now, we have the biggest fire our state has ever seen while the federal government says it can manage only a quarter of the land it owns. I’m working every day to deliver the resources we need to get the wildfire emergency under control.”

The Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus:

  • Advocates for wildfire-related programs, including funding for disaster relief, prevention, and mitigation;
  • Shares federal relief programs and resources with communities before, during and after wildfire season; and
  • Highlights balanced and bipartisan science-based wildfire management and mitigation proposals in Congress.
