California Statewide Fire Summary for September 5, 2021

September 5, 2021 - More than 14,400 firefighters are on the frontlines of 13 major wildfires and two extended attack wildfires burning in California. Despite rising temperatures, good progress is being Cal Firemade and containment efforts continue to increase on most of the wildfires. In addition to these fires, firefighters across the state responded to and contained 35 new initial attack wildfires yesterday.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been almost 7,100 wildfires that have burned more than 1.98 million acres in California.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect for parts of Modoc County from Sunday afternoon through the evening due to strong gusty winds and low humidity.

Above average temperatures and very dry weather will continue in the northern part of the state through Monday. A heat advisory is in effect from noon to 8 pm on Monday for the central valley and coastal range. Changeable weather patterns will begin Tuesday with some cooling, increasing winds mid- to late week, and some lightning potential. In the southern part of the state, temperatures will remain 5 – 10 degrees above normal through Tuesday. An excessive heat watch remains in effect from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening for the south eastern part of the state. The large fire threat will decrease some Wednesday, as temperatures start to cool and humidity increases a bit. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible across Southern California starting Wednesday afternoon.

CAL FIRE urges all Californians to use extreme caution when outdoors during this warm holiday weekend. A wildfire that is sparked under these conditions can spread rapidly, threatening lives and homes. To learn ways to prevent sparking a wildfire, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
