California Statewide Fire Summary for September 7, 2021 

September 7, 2021 - As of this morning, there are more than 15,500 firefighters making progress on 14 major wildfires and four extended attack wildfires in California. Yesterday, firefighters also responded to 32 new initial attack wildfires across the state. Of those initial attacks, one wildfire became an extended attack fire, but progress is being made. The Caldor fire is now the 17th most destructive fire in California history.

Since the beginning of the year, over 2 million acres have burned in California. While firefighters continue battling the current major wildfires, CAL FIRE and fire departments across the state remain prepared for potential more significant wildfires due to critical fire weather.

A Red Flag Warning in effect from 1pm to 8pm Tuesday for strong gusty wind with low relative humidity for Siskiyou County from the Cascade Mountains East and South to Mt. Shasta-Modoc County.

Northern California will see increasing wind flow Tuesday-Wednesday coupled with low relative humidity. An unusually warm and dry airmass is expected today through tonight with high temp departures 5-15 degrees above average with minimum relative humidity values in the single digits/teens/20s with poor to moderate recoveries. Increasing West-South-West winds TuesdayWednesday with peak gusts 20-30 mph, locally 35 mph favoring gaps leading out of Coastal Range Tuesday night. Isolated to widely scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms (a mix of wet and dry) will be possible over the mountains and deserts of Southern California Wednesday through Friday, including areas of the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley. Temperatures will remain around 10 degrees above normal through Saturday. A gradual cooling trend is expected Saturday into early next week with temperatures dropping back to seasonal norms.
