California Statewide Fire Summary for September 19, 2021

September 19, 2021 - More than 10,000 firefighters continue to work towards containment on 11 major wildfires and two extended attack wildfires burning in California. Yesterday, firefighters also responded to 50 new Cal Firewildfires. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 7,552 wildfires, which have burned more than 2.3 million acres.

A Red Flag Warning in effect through this evening for the Southern Sierra including eastern Fresno, Tulare, and Kern Counties for critical fire weather due to low humidity and gusty winds. A Fire Weather Watch issued tonight into Tuesday morning due to gusty winds and low humidity for portions of the Sacramento Valley and surrounding foothill and mountain terrain, as well as the North Bay mountains and East Bay hills. In Northern California, cooler unsettled weather today with isolated to scattered mountain showers and breezy Northwest wind. Ridging will build in along the coast behind the trough with dryer offshore flow in north – northwest to northeast winds developing early this week. In Southern California, a pacific trough will be over the west coast today. Strong high pressure will set up over California tomorrow through the end of the week. Westerly winds will surface across the mountain ridges and desert passes through this evening. Temperatures will remain 5 to 10° below normal through today,

With the Red Flag Warning in effect, CAL FIRE is urging all Californians to take extreme caution to prevent sparking a wildfire. With gusty winds, coupled with warm and dry conditions, fire danger will be elevated. The public is asked to take steps to prevent sparking a wildfire. To learn more, visit www.ReadyForWildfire.org.
