September 22, 2021 - More than 9,400 firefighters continue to work on containing California’s 11 major wildfires and one extended attack wildfire. Crews across the state also responded to and quickly contained 20 new wildfires yesterday. In 2021, there have been 7,595 wildfires that have burned more than 2.3 million acres in California.

In Northern California, expect dry and windy conditions for the Cascade-Sierra crest and Modoc Plateau eastward today. Locally breezy north-northeast-east winds for the Sacramento Valley/west slopes of the Cascade-Sierra range expected tonight through Thursday evening. In the southern region, a strong high pressure will be centered over the desert southwest today, causing temperatures to be around 10 degrees above normal today. A slow cooling trend along with gradual increase in humidity will occur Thursday through early next week.

Today is the first day of fall, and despite cooler morning temperatures in many areas of the state, fire officials continue to warn residents to remain prepared. Historically, September and October are when the state experiences some of the most devastating wildfires. Do not let your guard down!
