Symposium is free and open to the public; Free admission to all BLM-managed public lands on Sept. 25

September 23, 2021 - To celebrate Public Lands Week and as part of the commemoration of the Bureau of Land Management’s 75th Anniversary, the agency invites the public to attend a virtual symposium on Thursday, Sept. 23. The Symposium, co-sponsored by the Public Lands Foundation, Conservation Lands Foundation, and the University of California-Berkeley’s Institute for Parks, People and Biodiversity, will look back on the BLM’s first 75 years and discuss challenges confronting the agency in the decades to come.

This symposium, which is open to the public and will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube, will feature three virtual panel discussions covering a range of topics, including Tribal co-management, the Biden Administration’s America the Beautiful initiative, and other critical challenges confronting the BLM and public lands across the West, including a look back by former BLM directors.

As part of National Public Lands Week (Sept. 20-26), the BLM will be hosting multiple public events across the nation to celebrate the more than 245 million acres of public lands it manages – and to enlist public volunteers to help care for these lands. Each year, thousands of Americans come together in late September to volunteer their time to improve parks, recreation areas, trails, and historic sites throughout the country.

To celebrate Public Lands Week on Saturday, Sept. 25, site-specific standard amenity and day-use fees at BLM recreation sites and areas nationwide will be waived for all visitors.
