EVACUATION WARNINGS:
Sheriff Boudreaux has issued EVACUATION WARNINGS for the communities of Eshom and Heartland Camp, including Eshom Valley Drive, from Fresno County Line, South to Tarbell Pocket on Eshom Valley Drive, and North Mountain Road, 468 North to the County line. The warning includes all structures, side roads, associated roads, and forest service roads, due to the KNP Complex Fire.

Sequoia National Forest Issues Closure Order

PORTERVILLE, Calif.– The Sequoia National Forest implements Forest Order No. 0513-21-33 to expand the KNP Complex Forest Areas, Roads, and Trails Closure Order in the Hume Lake Ranger District. This Closure Order supersedes Forest Order 0513-21- 30 and closes specifically identified roads and trails to protect public health and safety. The closure order will be in effect from September 21 through December 31, 2021.

The KNP Complex fire exhibits extreme fire behavior and has grown to over 25,147 acres with 0% containment. The Order includes Big Meadows and the Hume Lake area. In addition, Abbott Creek Road, Chicago Stump, and Hoist Ridge Roads outside the closure area are closed.

As the lighting caused KNP Complex Fire in Sequoia National Park continues to grow toward the Sequoia National Forest's Hume Lake Ranger District, officials reassess the fires' potential growth, rate of spread, path, and threat to the public and firefighter's safety.

According to Forest Supervisor Teresa Benson, the new order expanding the closure areas is due to the fire's recent expansion and anticipated growth. "The KNP Complex Fire in the Sequoia National Park is actively burning toward the Hume Lake Ranger District, creating a hazardous situation for the public. There is a need for this action because the wildfire threatens human life, property, and resource values," Forest Supervisor Benson stated. "Fire hazards have been identified and pose a threat to public safety because the roads and trail systems within the burn area are narrow and hazardous."

Additionally, Benson explained that there are numerous natural hazards created by the fire, such as tree snags, staubs, and root holes created by roots burning beneath the soil's surface. "The roads are also being used for staging heavy equipment, such as dozers and other suppression equipment, and fire suppression activities make the area unsafe for the public," she added.

Exemptions to the Order include residents and owners of private property, Federal, State, local officers, or members of an organized rescue or fire fighting force performing an official duty.

The order, exemptions, and map are available for viewing on the Sequoia National Forest website, https://www.fs.usda.gov/sequoia/. To view more information regarding the KNP Complex Fire, visit Inciweb, https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7838/.
