Become a UC Master Gardener!
September 25, 2021 - Did you know California has a state soil? How do you propagate your own plants? How do you care for fruit trees and vegetables? Which native plants support pollinators? These questions and more will be addressed in the upcoming Mariposa UC Master Gardener Training Class.
UC Master Gardeners are volunteer community educators right here in our local foothill communities. We offer an 18-week training course and a mentorship to help newly trained master gardeners 
find their niche in our volunteer organization. After training, new Master Gardeners take part in a variety of community events from local events, plant sales, and garden tours as well as a helpline, periodic workshops and other activities. We are home to the Plant-a-Row produce donation program that benefits local organizations and persons in need of fresh fruits and vegetables.
UC Master Gardener training includes introductory classes in horticulture, plant identification, entomology, plant pathology, integrated pest management, soil management, water management, and propagation. We also cover specific training in foothill gardening, home orchard management, composting, home vegetable gardening, sustainable landscaping, native plants, oak and pine tree care, landscaping for fire and other topics for the home gardener.
Training classes will begin January 5 in Mariposa from 9:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M. on consecutive Wednesdays through mid-May. Our program includes classroom and hands-on instruction by UC Farm Advisors, experts and UC-trained Master Gardeners.
