October 5, 2021 - Over 8,500 firefighters remain on the frontlines of California’s 10 major wildfires, with good progress being made on containment of the fires. Yesterday, firefighters responded to Cal Fireand quickly contained 21 new initial attack wildfires. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 7,856 wildfires that have burned more than 2.47 million acres in California.

Light rainfall tonight across the northwest quarter of California with amounts generally less than 0.25". Cooling this week with near normal readings today, then 5-15 degrees below normal Wednesday to Friday. Some snow possible Fri above 7500 ft in High Sierra. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across Southern California this afternoon into Tuesday afternoon. Most foothill and mountain locations will receive between a quarter inch and a half inch of rainfall and most coastal and valley locations will receive less than a quarter inch of rainfall. Temperatures will cool to around 5 degrees above normal today. Minimum humidity will increase into the 12% to 25% range today.
