October 7, 2021 - The National Weather Service Hanford Office reports light rain and higher elevation snow are in store for Friday and Saturday; this will be the first relatively cold storm of the cooler season.

Expect around one tenth of an inch to one third of an inch of rain in the Sierra Nevada and adjacent foothills.

Around 3-6 inches of snow could accumulate above 8,000 feet and will lead to slick roads.

Also, if traveling or hiking in the Sierra Nevada high country, be prepared for winter-like conditions and carry snow chains and a winter survival kit.

Elsewhere, less than one tenth of an inch of rain is likely to occur, including in the San Joaquin Valley and West Side Hills.

Another storm system is possible early next week and could bring another shot of cooler air, as well as possible precipitation and gusty winds.
