October 13, 2021 - In the early morning hours, on October 13, 2021, Deputy Zapien heard several gunshots in the area of Santa Fe Drive and Franklin Road in Merced. Deputy Zapen began checking the area and noticed a 2007 Mazda speeding on Santa Fe Drive and heard several gunshots coming from the vehicle. Deputy Zapien stopped the vehicle and located several spent shell casings in the vehicle and two loaded firearms.
Three occupants were identified in the vehicle as 23-year-old Alex Lucero, 22-year-old Aleigha Lucero, and 26-year-old Luis Jimenez. All three subjects were arrested and booked into the Merced County Jail for numerous weapons charges including willful negligent discharge of a firearm.
