Schlicting Receives Paramedic of the Year; Hahn Receives EMT of the Year, and Phillipe Receives EMD of the Year

June 5, 2015 - Three Yosemite National Park Rangers have received awards from the Mariposa County Health Department for their efforts and service to emergency medical services (EMS) in Yosemite National Park.  Heidi Schlichting received an award for Paramedic of the Year; Dave Hahn received an award for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) of the Year; and Nancy Phillipe received an award for Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) of the Year.  The awards were given at a ceremony in Mariposa, California last month.

Schlichting is a Park Ranger in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division for the Wawona District of Yosemite National Park.  She has been a paramedic for over ten years.  She is also the District EMS coordinator for Wawona.  Schlichting was nominated for the award based on her knowledge of EMS, her ability to work in a team, her contribution to Yosemite’s park-wide EMS program, her assistance in the park’s Quality Assurance Program, and as a direct result of numerous EMS trainings she has helped facilitate.

Hahn is a Park Ranger in the Visitor and Resource Protection Division for Yosemite Valley.  He has been an EMT for 21 years.  Hahn was nominated for his dedication to the EMS program in Yosemite.  He frequently picks up extra shifts on the ambulance in order to ensure full medical coverage for the park.  Additionally, Hahn is considered one of the most reliable EMT’s for last minute coverage needs.

Phillipe is the Emergency Communications Center Manager for the Yosemite National Park.  She has been a Dispatcher for 13 years.  Phillipe was nominated for her ability to maintain an Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) program in one of the most complicated national parks in the country.  Her willingness to receive feedback from her staff makes her an excellent manager and provides the best possible service for Yosemite staff.  Additionally, Phillipe is well known for her clear and concise radio communications and her patience during high-stress situations.
