November 5, 2021 - Merced – The Merced Police Department Gang Unit arrested three suspects for illegal possession of firearms, in two separate incidents, on Thursday November 4th.

On November 4th, the Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit arrested three gang members for possession of illegal firearms. All three suspects are prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

The first arrest was made at approximately 4:19 P.M. in the 700 block of West 5th Street, when Gang Officer Saldivar saw wanted person, Richard Moncrief (28), outside a residence. Moncrief retreated into the home where officers located and arrest him for an outstanding warrant. A subsequent search of the residence revealed a loaded homemade .22 caliber handgun.

The second incident occurred at approximately 5:02 P.M., when Gang Officer Rocha conducted a traffic stop on Giovanni Wiggins (19) and Charles Jackson (19). A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .40 caliber ghost gun with an illegal high capacity 30-round magazine.

The Gang Violence Suppression Unit has seized 23 firearms in the last 6 weeks, to address and combat gun violence.
