Investment Will Help Hardworking Families Afford Heating, Utility Costs and Energy Repairs

November 14, 2021 - WASHINGTON, DC — Last week, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA) announced $179,929,536 to help hardworking Californian families cover their energy costs this winter through the Department of Health and Human Services’ Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). As Americans continue to deal with the impacts of the pandemic, LIHEAP grantees will be able to use the funding appropriated by Congress, along with funding made available through the American Rescue Plan Act, to help more than 5 million households stay warm this winter, cover utility costs and pay for energy repairs.

“As hardworking Californians continue recovering from the pandemic, this investment will help families afford energy costs and stay warm, safe and healthy this winter,” said Garamendi.  

These funds are in addition to $204,425,300 Californian families received in May from the American Rescue Plan to help cover energy costs during the summer months.
