Traffic Stop Turned Drug Bust Made Worse by a Lie 

November 16, 2021 – On Saturday night, November 13, Deputy Betzenderfer stopped a pick-up truck on Peaceful Oak Road in Sonora for an equipment violation. A record check of the vehicle’s registration showed the registered owner was wanted for several warrants. The driver was contacted and initially verbally provided Deputy Betzenderfer with a name and claimed he did not have his identification on him. The driver consented to a search of his person. A wallet containing his actual identity, 54-year-old Timothy Bain of Jamestown, was found in his back pocket during the search.

Deputy Betzenderfer was able to confirm Bain had several warrants for his arrest. Deputy Betzenderfer later located a plastic bag containing just over 74 grams of methamphetamine in the driver door of the pick-up truck.

Bain was arrested for his warrants, providing false identification to a Peace Officer, and possession of methamphetamine for sale. Bain was booked into the county jail without incident.
