Sierra Foothill Charter School 5th and 6th grade students continue their science studies of water. Last week, they traveled to Yosemite to test the water there. They took advantage of the location by also having a wonderful hike and mini tour of the valley floor. Tying all of this into art, the day before the students had worked on water color paintings of Half Dome, learned wet brush and dry brush techniques, plus how adding salt brings out colors and adds texture to painting. Here, Erika Miranda (middle, back row) stands with her 5th and 6th grade students in front of Yosemite Falls. Students found a spot with a spectacular view to stop and eat lunch. Students took water samples, added chemical pellets, shook them until they dissolved, then compared the results to colors on a card showing pH levels and more. Ms. Milazzo helps Bradlie Teixeira interpret results. Mikey Owens, Skylee Bond, Kayla Lawrence, Malte Salonen, Bradlie Teixeira, and Trevor McClard show off their artwork.
