June 11, 2015 - At the Tuesday, June 9, 2015 Mariposa County Board of Supervisors meeting CAL Fire Spokesman Rich Drozen commenting on the Fox Fire said it was a very difficult to control fire and as of the Tuesday Board of Supervisors meeting they still had resources at the fire.

He said strike teams were called in from as far away as Monterey to help in the containment of the fire.

The cause of the fire and some other recent fires in the area has not been officially released but one fire was caused by a vehicle driving in high grass and multiple fires were caused by residents using weed eaters, lawn mowers and other equipment in the dry grass.

Mr. Drozen cautions everyone to be extra careful and "one less spark is one less fire."

This fire season may be as bad or worse than last fire season.

Mariposa County Sheriff Doug Binnewies said the call for the Fox Fire came in at 12:09 P.M. from the 4600 block of Lookout Mountain Road.

The Sheriff said it was lot of hard work on the ground fighting this fire that prevented it from spreading further along with the airplane dumping retardant on the fire.

Red Cross worked with the evacuations and opened up the center at the New Life Christian Church on Cole Road in Bootjack. About 29 families in the vicinity of the Fox Fire were notified of the evacuation. The Red Cross served 4 residents and 2 dogs and served 11 meals to staff and the evacuated residents.

Mandatory evacuations were on Lookout Mountain Road, Daffodil Road and Alamo Creek Road.

Silver Bar Road, Sullivan Road, Dusty Oaks Road, Ashworth Road and some additionals were under pre-evacuations.

With the fire contained all residents were released back into their homes at 8:36 P.M.

No injuries were reported and no structures or out buildings were damaged.

Mr. Drozen said a lot of the residents had adequate clearance around the homes. He said the stressed Oaks along with the Buckeyes can cast a lot of embers from 1/2 mile to a mile away with no wind and substantially farther with wind.

Mr. Drozen said Noon is late to be using power equipment in grass and with as dry as it is you should be done by 9:00 A.M.

It is so dry the fuel moistures are looking like it is August going into September.
