December 1, 2021 - Homicide detectives with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office have arrested 29-year-old Bretton Begaye of Auberry (Pictured). He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of murder and attempted murder. His bail is set at $1.5 million.
Around 5:00 P.M. on Friday, November 26 dispatchers with the Fresno County Sheriff Office received a call of a family disturbance taking place at a home on the 35000 block of Auberry Mission Road in Auberry. Deputies responded to the area and found a 52-year-old woman in the parking lot of Mono Winds Casino who was suffering from severe stab wounds. An EMS helicopter arrived and transported the woman to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno. She is currently in critical, but stable condition.
Deputies learned the woman was stabbed at a home a short distance away from the casino. They went to the home and contacted a man, later identified as Bretton Begaye. When deputies entered the home, they found 50-year-old Owen (a.k.a. Kiki) Hancock deceased from apparent stab wounds. Hancock was the longtime boyfriend of the woman who was transported to the hospital. Begaye is the son of that same woman. Deputies detained Begaye and turned him over to homicide detectives who responded to take over the investigation. Following an interview, detectives arrested Begaye for murder and attempted murder. A motive is unknown. This remains an ongoing investigation.
